I bought this item to provide shade over artificial turf during the very hot spring/summers here in the high desert. I removed the base sheeting (where people would sit) and placed the tent structure over the turf (which gets extremely hot in direct sunlight). Even with our strong winds, it is working beautifully to provide shade for the dogs. I could not be more pleased.

First, I think the overall design of this is brilliant. I did get it up and laid under it for quite a while. It let me still be near my friends who were sunbathing and also take in the beach scenery. However, the stakes didn't work for me. I was on the beach near a resort, it's possible that it was a man-made beach? I don't know, but there was no way to get those stakes into the ground and you really have to tack this thing down to keep it from blowing away like a kite. I don't know how they would work in normal sand, possibly okay in that situation. I just used my cooler and other stuff on the corners that day. I plan to get 4 sandbags and throw them in with this to use when the stakes don't work. Even though that part was annoying, overall I liked it and I'm keeping it.

This tent is very flimsy, difficult to set up, and impossible to keep in place while trying to guy down, even in the slightest breeze. The stakes and guy lines do not keep the tent upright on sand. The storage bag zipper broke on the first use.
