This simple gadget, which I've mounted on top of a 30 gallon cardboard tank with removable top, works superbly well to separate dust from anything larger. I bought the first of these some time ago and was so impressed with it that I bought a second one to have two dust collection units in my shop. They're each hooked to 500 cfm suctions (Rockler) and the combination is great for everything, but especially for a 15" thickness planer (Grizzly) which has a very high output of chips and dust. I've tried several other homemade combinations for dust collection (serial tanks, etc) but these cheap plastic cyclones are by far the best I've found, and the cost is trivial.

I have only a few hours of run time on this but it seems to be working good. I used the 4" hose.

this works exactly as advertised and is a fantastic deal compared to the Dust Deputy and the like.

I have dumped the 30 gallon bin twice so far, the 1 micron bag on the dust collector is just starting to show a fine layer of dust inside.

I am yet to set this up in my workshop but at eye's view, it appears to be a very strong and worthwhile item to attach to my Dust collection Unit.

It’s working brilliantly. I use a Nilfisk dust extractor that’s great for hand-held power tools, and now I’ve connected it to a cyclone for chip collection from my DeWalt DW733 thicknesser and Axminster 6” jointer. The chips are collected into a 50-litre oil drum, and I made a lid from chipboard to mount the cyclone.

Excelent little cyclone with great capacity. I have instaled it on the dust extraction for my cnc machine, works great

I’m a huge fan of low profile separators, so when I started shopping, I looked at recent patents in the US PTO to see what I could learn about current and emerging technologies. I saw one in there by a guy named Thomas Huntley that looks exactly like this one, although yours spins the other direction. I’m not sure if that absolves you from infringement, but it was encouraging because I know so much of what he has invented works exceptionally well. So I bought it. And it does work exceptionally well and at a really cheap price. I’ll let Tom know so he’s on the lookout.
